Best bylines

One of the ways we amuse ourselves on the copy desk is by informally collecting the coolest bylines we see on wire stories. (The byline is the reporter's name, for those who don't know.)

My all-time favorite is a McClatchy Newspapers reporter named ...
Noble Sprayberry

Some of our other favorites:
Paisley Dodds
T.A. Badger
Constant Brand

Well, there's always MY name: Elaine Lies (said like "cheese," not the obvious). We also have a reporter at Reuters named Opheera McDoom.

Hope all's well.

Elaine

That's an awesome name! My coworkers were all impressed.

I am doing well, except for being overwhelmed by a toddler and another pregnancy, and I haven't been good at updating anywhere or keeping in touch with anyone. How are things with you?

Yes, Opheera's famous for that. Her name has been picked up on a lot of blogs (mine was cited on one English blog.) She's also quite a good reporter, has done some amazing work from Sudan.

I'm fine, but overworked. Sure glad I'm not doing more than small novel revisions right now, it'd be impossible to be writing a new draft these days! Hope to start sending it around sometime this summer, or maybe by fall.

Good luck with everything: a pregnancy, a toddler AND a job seems like enough to qualify you for heroism status! Hang in there.

Noble Sprayberry, really.

A few facts:

Never worked for McClatchy.

Did work for Gannett, Thompson, Copley and a family-owned paper.

Now? Freelance. Hey, after after the above, what do you expect? I needed a break.

Strangest mispronunciation? Nobel Sprayberg. Oh, and the caller asked for Mrs. Nobel Sprayberg.

My favorite byline? Jingle Davis, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
