Ship Meme - Day 27: A pairing that you loved and ended up hating?
This was what, 15 years ago? So i was a fragile, hormonal teenager with many issues, so don't judge, k?
I loved them. No seriously. Loved them. I was insanely obsessed. I wanted them to adopt me.
I used to watch the french dubbed version on France 2, just because IT WAS THEM, it doesn't matter in what language. I USED TO RECORD IT TOO ON VCR. Just because. I used to have a MD full of mp3 quotes of the show, so I could listen to their voices as you would listen to songs.
They were so beautiful, and smart, and those uniforms sweet god..I know more about the USA armed forces than I do about my own. I know the insignia, the ranks, the uniforms, what's a RIO, where's Parris Island, what's the MACH force of a Tomcat and why it's different than a Super Hornet and why it kicks MiGs in the ass.
The Real Harriett (if you don't know who that is, get out of my LJ LOL XD) mailed me those glossy signed cast pictures this one time? It was the best day EVER. I framed them and hanged them next to my pillow so I could see them before going to sleep. INSANE, I tell you.
Then 10 years and a half passed... And I wanted to hack them to pieces with a rusty machete.
Ten FUCKING YEARS of in your-face-ship (we're not talking subtexty-it's-all-your-head kinda ship here, we're talking SINCE DAY ONE, MINUTE ONE ship..) They managed to give us what-ifs episodes, and those flashback-y thingies where their grandfathers or fathers are actually them, only with like, '40s clothes on...and and and those 'this story has nothing to do you with you it's happening 200 years in the past, but it's kinda relevant to your story' so the actor play those characters as well..
And the ranks that were almost never equals and the chain of command would get messy (when he was Lieut. Commander, she got promoted to Lieut. Colonel, then he was promoted to Captain and so on..) and endless near death experiences, deadly missions in Russia, Colombia, on aircraft carriers at sea and ejections from exploding F-14 and lost fathers quests, and parents issues the size of Lake Ontario, and falling off the wagon, and 5 years pacts about children, and a malfunctioning uterus and the 4% solution..and and and rivals and exes and almost husbands, almost daughters, half brothers, and annoying girlfriends and OMFG ENOUGH ALREADY.
TEN YEARS. And A HALF. And they resolved it in the last FIVE MINUTES, of the LAST EPISODE. Of the LAST SEASON. With a scene that went a bit like this: well, they are splitting us, whatchoowanna do? Wanna get married? OK then!
So they have to decide where to go, right? If they go to London, she has to resign (she's a fucking MARINE, I don't think you understand the importance of this fact..), if they go to San Diego, he has to resign (being a fly-boy is all he knows, because of dead pilot daddy dearest who died in Nam..) and they both tried before and it didn't work but this time it's different, so they gather all their friends, make the announcement, take a JAG challenge coin (again, if you don't know what that is, out of my LJ! XD), flip it in the air and...it stops. RIGHT THERE. With US not knowing what will happen to them, and THEM looking at the coin utterly TERRIFIED.
And as if this didn't ruin it completely already? Turns out Catherine Bell, my beautiful, intelligent, farsi-speaking, England-born, hot as hell Catherine Bell is actually one of those Scientology freaks and doesn't scream during childbirth because 'it's already a traumatizing experience for the child, no need to add stress to the event'.. *unfollowed on Twitter in 0.2 seconds*
