The two of them reappeared in a small empty cement room. The year was now 3108. Gyros lived under New York where the subways use to run long ago. Now it was just long empty underground roadways where you found the evilest of all people. It was one of the shadiest places in the world at the time, some considered it to be the capital of evil; it was founded in a system of chaos where not even the law intervened. Gyros lived there all his life and wanted out. He had been earning his life savings for this one chance to get out of this hell and now it was here.
Looking at his wrist he saw the time and panic, he was going to be late. As he scrambled around getting ready the barbarian laid on the ground his eyes began to open and tried to struggle free from his restraints. Gyros picked up the axe and pulled up the barbarian dragging him out of the room, after a while the barbarian learn to follow him. They walked down the old subway tracks.
As they got further down they walked into two young men one smirked at Gyros, “What you doing with that thing?” said one of the boys lighting a cigarette.
The other turned and said, “You remember Gyros dream.”
“Ha, your going to summit this guy, he won’t even make his first fight.” laughed the other.
The barbarian started to get mad and grunted towards the two.
“Aww, look at that, the sad barbarian knows we are talking about it.” Smirked the other pointing at the barbarian laughing.
The barbarian, now furious ripped his hands free of the restraints and attacked the two men. His hand grabbed one of their arms and tossed him into a near by wall like a rag doll. The other shook there and wet his pants as the barbarian grabbed his face and smashed it into the ground breaking it. Turning towards Gyros who tried his best not to become scared the barbarian pulled off a necklace around from his neck containing a large bone claw and placed it around Gyros’ neck and grunted. Gyros confused nodded his head as they began to walk forward again.
As they approached the end of the corridor light dwindle down from the sky above. All around where building that scraped the clouds, Gyros hadn’t been to the surface since he was a little kid. The barbarian looked around confused and out of place, people started walking by them doing their own things. Gyros kept walking the barbarian followed him. The recent behavior of the barbarian started to confuse Gyros on why it was behaving so well but he shrugged it off and thought it was just as well to keep things this way.
It took about an hour till they finally got to their destination. The Grand Coliseum in the center of New York. This was Gyros’ dream; this is where the real people lived. He remembered coming here when he was little with his father watching the fights. It was huge; it sat 50,000 people in it. In the center way a large circular arena about 500 feet from one end to the other sounded by 15 feet high rock walls. Two large doors placed on each end and small windows with bars scatted all around. From the outside it was replicated to look like the Roman Coliseum but on a larger scale.
Gyros walked inside with the barbarian to the special fighters only area where sat an old woman behind a desk who looked like she was 120.
“I would like to register for the fights tonight” Gyros said with a smile on his face to the old wrinkly lady.
“And what is your name?” said the old woman though her thin saggy lips.
“Gyros” he said nervously as he slid his hands in and out his pockets.
“And your fighter’s?” the old woman said raising her eyebrow.
Gyros thought for a minute he hadn’t been able to come up with a name yet, “Argon” he quickly though of.
“Alright and weapon and type?”
“Stone axe, barbarian”
“That will be $10,000”
Gyros handed her the money he was a little nervous because that was everything he had to his last dime. A small piece of paper printed up from the desk and the woman hanged it to Gyros who scanned over it.
Fight 6, Argon (Barbarian, Stone Axe) vs. Thor (Viking, Hammer)
Gyros spun around going back to the lady, “Is this right?” his face spoke in shock.
“Yes it is sir. Is there a problem?” she said oddly looking up at him.
“How can I be matched with Thor, this is my first fight here and he is only a barbarian type.” Angrily stated
“Sorry sir but it is all randomized.”
Gyros rain his fingers through his hair worried, looking at Argon. “We can do this.” He tried to say cheerfully. Argon only grunting back at him which sounded like approval.
The two of them went down to what was called the cage, the area that circled around the fighting area where they could watch the fight at ground level and wait for theirs. The first fight had already started; Argon watched and tried to barge into the arena only to have Gyros grab him. Gyros shook his head no and pointed over to Thor on the other side, “You are going to fight him in there” he said as he pointed over to the battle arena.
Argon looked at Gyros like he understood and then looked at Thor who wore light metal armor that shined and had a large Viking helm on his head, next to him sat his large metal hammer with a huge spike coming out the back used to impale his opponents in battles. It was his well know finishing move. “That’s Thor his record is 49:2, he is one of the top Viking types and number one hammer user in the underclass group.” Gyros said to Argon.
A nurse in a little white outfit came over to the two of them. “Hi my name is Tina, I have to give a check up to Argon before he fights”
“Oh hi I’m Gyros. Sure lets get to it.” Gyros said as the nurse leaded them to another room.
The nurse pulled out a large needle and went to stick it in Argon who started to get jumpy. The nurse sighed, “You’re quite a bad trainer.” As she stroked Argon’s arm to clam him down.
“To tell you the truth I just got him earlier today.”
“And you brought him here right away?” Tina said surprised.
“I didn’t have much of a choice in the matter, I need the money. I got some bad people I need to deal with.”
“Where do you live?”
“The underground.”
The nurse became shocked, “I didn’t think you guys came out of there.”
“Well, I was born there, I’ve been trying to get out and this is my one and only chance.”
Tina smiled, “How about I help fix up Argon for you?”
Gyros grew a big smile on his face, “Really?”
“Yeah it sounds like a good cause, who you fighting?” the nurse said as she stuck the needle into Argon drawing blood, Gyros held him back.
“Umm… They put me verses Thor.” Said nervously.
“Wow, that’s bad luck. Especially with Thor going for his 50th conductive win to get up to the class A fights. Think Argon can do it?” said the nurse as she scanned the blood.
“Maybe, he has the potential but I haven’t been able to start training him yet.”
The nurse pulled out a special glove and stuck it on and flipped a switch which made it start to glow. She slowly waved her hand over Argon’s body healing him. “Well I’ll be rooting for ya.” she finished, “He is in top shape now, good luck.”
“Thanks” said Gyros bashfully.
As the two of them walked out the announcements could be heard for the fifth fight. Looking onto the field Gyros saw the well know Anubis with a black staff in hand fighting someone Gyros never heard of before. The fight started Anubis quickly lifted his staff and in the blink of an eye drove it through the other fighter.
The announcer came back on saying, “And Anubis wins again now with a 44:3. Next we have the mighty Thor versus another newcomer Argon a barbarian stone axe type.” Gyros could hear the crowd roaring as Thor walked out onto the battle field. He turned to Argon and handed him the axe and looked at Thor, “Now is your time to show everyone what you’re made of Argon.” patting him on the back.
Gyros stared out onto the field and the crowed became very quite. Thor stood in the middle of the ring and smirked at Argon, “Come get me big dummy.”
Argon gripped his axe tightly shifted his weight and dashed forward.
“Too slow” Thor said as he appeared behind Argon and sung his hammer at his back. Argon arm reached back as if he knew the hammer was coming and caught the hammer head and tossing both the hammer and Thor forward into the dirt floor.
“Your better then I though” Thor snickered as he got back up. Argon dashed forward again this time reappearing right next to Thor and sung his axe. Thor quickly used the shaft of his hammer to block the attack as Argon kicked at Thor’s leg to sweep Thor making him jump back.
Gyros started to smile as he saw how well the fight till he heard Thor starting to chant. Thor raised his hammer into the air and smashed it into the ground causing the ground to split. Argon fell into the crack that appeared under his feet.
The announcer came back on, “Thor now with fifty wins will go into the A class fights after-” before he could finish Argon flew up out of the hole unharmed. “Wait ladies and gentlemen Argon has reappeared the fight isn’t over yet. Seems like our newcomer Argon is up for a challenge.”
Thor looked at Argon stunned as Argon charged forward bashing the axe into Thor’s armor cracking it and sending him back. Thor became mad and started to chant again this time the hammer started to spark as lightning whirled out the back end jumping into the front. “Catch this.” He yelled flying forward swing the hammer up toward Argon who returned a blow by swing his axe down shattering Thor’s hammer.
Thor’s trainer yelled out to Thor to stop fighting but it seemd that Thor didn’t listen as he stood back up. “Who would have thought you would be able to beat my hammer” Thor laughed and bowed to Argon. “Shall we fight again another day?” Argon seemed confused and bowed back as Thor walked off the arena floor.
The crowed cheered as the announcer declared Argon the winner. Gyros ran out and lifted Argon’s arm into the air and brought him back inside. They where meet by a man in a suit who handed Gyros a card, there is $500,000 for the win. “Now shall you guys be normal contenders?” the man asked.
“Yes, we are only at the start.” smirked Gyros.
Hope you enjoyed =)
