Family History: Born to Luke and Elizabeth Collins, Michael is the youngest of three children. (His older brother, Noah, has also been admitted to the institute.) Collins has a very large extended family that he had varying amounts of contact with prior to admittance.
Medical History: At age 8, broke his right wrist after falling off of his bed while play-fighting with his siblings. The break was treated and healed cleanly. At age 15, cut his hand open with a fish hook while on a church camping trick. Was given first aid at the camp itself and healed with little scarring. Starting from age 30 on, Collins suffered consistent illnesses due to not taking care of himself, not getting enough sleep, etc. but ignored advice to eat better, sleep more, and so forth. At age 36, he got involved in a case surrounding a pair of brothers that took more of a toll than most and which led to a gradual mental breakdown as he started to believe that he was in fact an angel sent to help his clients. At this point he was admitted to Landel's Institute.
Current Status: Since his arrival, patient Collins has only had one violent incident with another patient, Kristen Alighieri. The two got into a heated argument during breakfast, but it was broken up and both of them got away with a warning. Other than that, Collins has been well-behaved and rather quiet. There has not been much luck in drawing him out of his delusions, but attempts will continue to be made. It is difficult to determine if spending time around patients Matt and Eric is helpful or damaging to him, but he will continue to be monitored.
Life History (not part of the physical file): Michael was born in Pontiac, Illinois. While his parents tried to be very loving and he was never wanting, his father in particular was often off on business as he had a job that required him to travel a lot. His mother worked locally but was gone all day and tended to have long hours. Therefore, Michael was mainly raised by his two siblings - Noah often tormented him (though the teasing and pestering always had an underlying affection to it), whereas his sister was the one who took care of him most.
Because Michael's family was very religious family, he always went to church growing up and developed a very close relation with God. He worked as an Acolyte as a child and contributed much to the church as he grew up as well by going on church camping trips and working as a camp counselor as he moved into his teens.
Michael chose to become a detective because he felt that that was the best way he could serve God - by punishing those who had sinned. He became extremely engrossed in his work and drifted away from his family -- even his siblings -- as he was consumed by it. Even so, he continued to attend church every Sunday to remind himself of why he did what he did.
At age 36, Collins was approached by a man by the name of Matt Derringer who believed that his brother, Eric Derringer, had been murdered. The two of them worked together closely to investigate the murder, but eventually Collins realized that Matt was mentally disturbed and had made up the whole thing, unable to accept the fact that Eric had in fact only attempted to kill himself.
The case was closed, though three weeks after the closing Collins went to visit Matt, who had been admitted to Landel's Institute to recover from his obssession with and belief in the supernatural. Collins was surprised when Matt didn't recognize him, but still attempted to advise Matt to repair his relationship with Eric.
However, soon after this visit Collins started to deteriorate himself. He believed that an angel named Castiel had chosen him as a vessel and intended to posses him so that he could help these brothers and work toward a greater purpose. In the space of a week Collins started referring to himself as Castiel and spoke of an oncoming Apocalypse and Lucifer himself. At this point he was also admitted to Landel's Institute.
