If your character and Kay need to get together for a personal conversation or some other kind of little-tiny-thing, and we're feeling too lazy to throw up a new post, we can spam it up in here.

[When they walk in the door, Mildmay does his best to keep from whistling. This is hands down the best place he's ever lived-- ever set foot in, why not. Aside from the Mirador, of course, but then he slept in the servant's closet thing. Doesn't quite count.]

[He's still not quite sure why he's even allowed in a place like this. He'll try to be on his best behavior, so no one thinks he's about to lift anything.]

[Fat chance of that, Milly-fox.]

Uh- thank you kindly, Kay, I... [Kethe, it has it's own washroom!] Thank you.

[Kay doesn't realize that he's so impressed; it's a nice enough apartment, and it's a lot better of a deal than what she had at home, but it's still basically your average apartment. She points out all the different rooms, the doors to which are all ajar.]

That's your bedroom. There's the bathroom. That one's my bedroom, and I'm using that one as a study, hope you don't mind. The kitchen's shared, which isn't exactly ideal, but... [But that's the way it goes. The neighbors seem like decent enough folk so far.]

[She shrugs at his thanks.] I ought to be thanking you, really. You could have one of these all to yourself if you wanted, you know.

[Mildmay, not wanting to look too flat (and there's a laugh), tries to hide the astonishment that Kay obviously doesn't share. Maybe she came from better money than he thought. Manhattan's sounding more and more alien as time goes on.]

I know. [Or, at least, he, uh, figured. Really he ought to figure out a way to get the information out of that damn guide.] I ain't lived on my own in ages, though. Reckon I'm out of practice. The bedroom's awful nice.

[Mildmay wanders over to a chair, since they're presumably in the living room, and Mildmay's just walked across town. Long distances: His one true nemesis, besides stairs.]

Glad you like it. [She slips out of her shoes and takes a seat on the davenport; while the long distance doesn't bother her, the standing around while the guest--or roommate, she supposes--is sitting does.] I'm out of practice at living alone, too. I've been married nearly fifteen years now--it's strange to try and go back to single living after all that.

[She pauses. When Kay admits it to herself, she misses Julius desperately; he's the only thing she does truly miss about home, aside from her books and (occasionally) the sounds of traffic when she's falling asleep. So she tries not to admit it to anyone, least of all her own self.] My husband probably feels the same way, I suppose. Who'd you live with back in Mélusine?

[Kay bought--insofar as anyone can buy things here, but "bought" sounds a little better than "pillaged"--a bunch of vegetables, noodles and a chicken the night before, and made sure that the shared kitchen had all the necessary pans. This morning, she doesn't have to worry about anything except grabbing a few books for Hiccup. She picks out a half-dozen, so he's got some variety to choose from--a Louis L'Amour, an Ellery Queen, a collection of Benny's short stories, and a few others--then grabs the anthology of stories she and Julius wrote, in a fit of vanity. For herself, an interesting-looking novel by someone called Kurt Vonnegut, and she's set.

She nearly drops every book she's holding when she comes out into the hallway and sees a great black shape stomping toward her.] Oh--!

...You weren't kidding about the dragon. [Trying to ignore the way her heart's pounding she smiles at the boy--Hiccup, clearly--and his beast, and after a moment or two, her expression won't even look forced. The surprise of finding a dragon in her ( ... )

Well, if he, ah, gets bored, we can always let him outside.

[Kay considers the dragon for a moment or two, all the while with the odd sense that he's sizing her up just like she's doing to him. Shifting the stack of books to one arm, she tentatively reaches a hand toward him and glances over at Hiccup.] Is it all right if I...?
