I attempted to find an explanation of what fair precisely means, and came up with this:

-Being in accordance with relative merit or significance
-Consistent with rules, logic, or ethics
-Marked by impartiality and honesty: free from self-interest, prejudice, or favoritism
-Conforming with the established rules

Most of what fair actually means seems to revolve around the individual's perception of what other people should/shouldn't do and what people deserve. In light of this, I'd say that fair is in the eye of the beholder.

Hey Ben! This is Chase Chauffe. Ok.

But anyway, to stay on subject, I have to reccomend that you read The Princess Bride by William Golding. It has a strong theme of "fairness".
Basically, the moral of the story is that life truly isn't fair.
