Heh, I think after the first six months, parents get used to our constant wailing and crying, so it gets routinized. When I imagine being a parent, I focus more on the pain the children would suffer as they go through their teenage years if they aren't able to get boyfriends or girlfriends, and getting on career paths - since I failed in these things! :p
I think you feel more at loss/frustrated with dogs and small kids because they can't really tell you what they are feeling. You can just see they are in pain.
btw, if dogs gets sick and don't eat anything, you should make sure they are drinking water/hydrated. (one doc told me their kidneys are delicate.) And if they have fever, it is easy to know, they don't eat anything, and the moisture near their nose would have dried up. I guess you know, but still passing on what I observed with my dog. :)
Aw, I feel so bad for your pup! Dogs are so guileless - I think that's why it's so hard to see them hurt or in pain.
And yes, I'd count myself as one of the freak-out-regularly parents. So far, I've taken Kiva to the doctor twice: once because she had a cold (i.e., stuffy nose), and once because she hadn't pooped in two days.

Yeah, I learnt this from experience. Babies/puppies are delicate creatures. Heh, I was so nervous during her first few months.
