I would say no because there is no guarantee that the women giving the milk would maintain a vegan diet.

I agree. Or that she's free-range or grass-fed.

Depends on the reason for being vegan.

Also, I can't decide if this is gross or sexy.

Human milk doesn't contain enough protein to make cheese from it.

There was that couple a few years ago who were arrested after their baby died when they would only feed it a vegan diet. Which didn't include breast milk. I'm not sure if you can get a Darwin award for killing your offspring from stupidity and then getting yourself sent to jail so you can't breed any more, but they deserve it.

Actually, I've read that vegan breast milk (that is, the breat milk of vegans) can't sustain a baby, because vegans don't make a certain protein, so the baby can starve to death.

I had a vegan toddler at my last job (a preschool) who was never breast fed either. He was terrifyingly thin & sick all the time :( But a really bright kid...

I mean, I'm a vegetarian all, but I doubt I'll raise my kids vegetarian at first (I mean, I'll probably try to get the antibiotic/hormone free stuff as much as possible, since those are major reasons I don't eat meat). First off, kids are growing and have different nutritional needs than adults. Second off, introducing kids to a wide range of foods is how you help then develop a diverse palette and eat a wide range of foods throughout life.

And I do NOT understand not breastfeeding if you're vegan. Like, I thought one of the objections to animal products is that they're for baby animals, so it's gross when we drink them. Why the hell should OUR milk then not be used for our young? Fucking idiotic.

This particular mother also happened to think that children were psychic, though, so maybe this was just an especially crazy family.
I'm a vegetarian also & completely agree about the antibiotic/hormone free meats for kids, especially toddlers. Granted these parents packed fairly protein-rich lunches for him, but that just doesn't cut it 100% of the time.
