If you assume that King of the Hill is like Seinfeld or Arrested Development, and that all of the characters are supposed to be dumb and unsympathetic, the show makes much more sense.

It could also make more sense if you pretend the characters aren't supposed to be funny.

Hank's a deeply emotionally damaged individual who absolutely refuses to get help or stop inflicting the damage his father did to him on other people. Peggy's a narcissist megalomaniac who has convinced herself that she's better at everything than everyone despite having no apparent skills other than playing Boggle. Nancy snuck around behind her husband's back for years and fathered a child with John Redcorn, feeling remorse about it only after a decade and a half. Dale's a right-wing paranoid nutbar too dumb to notice that his wife is cheating on him (despite Nancy and John being absolutely terrible at hiding it). Boomhauer's a nonentity. Bill was dumped ten years ago and has allowed it to destroy his life. Kahn and Minh are vicious elitists without anything to actually feel good about. Cotton's a monster, and Didi enables that.

The kids are pretty sympathetic, I guess.

lol Boomhauer. I love that Brad Pitt played his brother on that one episode.

I had a King of the Hill phase a few years ago. Then we had cable.

That's how I try to watch Fox News, but it still scares the shit out of me every time.

I just watch that with my special sunglasses on, and it makes the Sci-Fi/Skiffy/Syfy Channel completely superfluous.
