I knew, even in elementary school, that it was a stupid thing to call someone as an insult. Maybe it was the fact that all those people who were the most likely to insult a group of people were also the ones who hurt me daily on the playground, maybe it was my family and all their wacky problems, maybe it was my mom exposing me to tv shows that were "liberal", maybe it was my friends, maybe for me it was church. I dunno. But one way or another, I made it out as best I could, with friends that I'd still step in front of a truck for, and a healthy compassion for the "other" people over the popular ones.
