Adventures in...

So, I am thinking that some of you would be interested in hearing about my first week of Library School. A couple of you have even been there yourselves.

The raw data: I am one of seven or eight men entering the MLIS program in a group of 47 people (last year only four men came in). The Archive Studies program seems slightly less gender-biased. ( Read more... )

I have an acquaintance who (is? Was? not sure at this point) working at the local Library for the Blind. She got pretty decent pay too.

I did my undergraduate work at the University of Montevallo (small college in AL) and my graduate studies at UNC. I can't speak for other programs, but the English department was fucking GRIM. No socializing! None! In the two years of earning my MA, I managed to get three people to go to a bar with me *once*!!! And one person to go to a museum with me. They were like zombies. I ended up in therapy. lol. Seriously. I was too broke to go clubbing and stuff back then.

If you end up back in NC at any time, look me up and I can take you out to any number of gothic events that Keith and I frequent. The Triangle scene is mostly friendly, and those who aren't friendly, you don't want to waste your time on anyway.

You shouldn't have any trouble meeting women, methinks. You're well spoken, and you're certainly not hard on the eyes. ;)

Thanks for the invite, and the compliment. I have myself at least partly to blame for lack of socializing while in NC, and I'm working on correcting it.

Reading this made me realize I left out one of the goth scenes I've experienced - Berlin! Berlin was a lot of fun, but interestingly the only people who talked to me were from out of town also.

That must've been interesting. Ever checked it out in England? (I'm not too well traveled myself.)

I've been to London and other points in England, but too long ago to have been interested in Goth. I was originally seduced into punk rock during my first trip there in 1983.

Sounds like a pretty good first week. Cataloging/classification type classes always seem difficult and filled with a lot of work to do for them. =)

Glad your cohort is willing to go out and socialize. Having that comraderie was pretty much what got me through the program. Ha!
