My Local Liquor Store No Longer Carries Liquor

Sep 24, 2009 21:40

Tonight I stopped in at the liquor store to pick up some over-priced beer. In the process, I noted that all distilled beverages have been removed from the shelves.

This is apparently common in Canada. Go figure.

oh canada

Could be, but I don't think so. When I first went in there last month, I asked how come they didn't have scotch. The guy said that they used to, but that the owner decided it wasn't worth stocking it about a month earlier. Now the shelves that had vodka, gin, and whiskey are all full of high-end wines.

WAT. Where are you supposed to buy it now?

Well, there is a government liquor store perhaps 1/2 mile to a mile away (easy driving distance), that has pretty much anything you could want. I usually shop there, but I was out of beer last night and decided I wanted one. In general, I drink very little non-beer alcohol.

It just insults my sense of English propriety that wine & beer stores are designated "liquor" stores in Canada.

Well, as an American, I find it pretty freaky myself.
