I have a question, that is not snarky, and is serious (like the hair thing from yesteryear): I see the usage of the word "Pimp" a lot and it seems to be ok. Why?

We all know what a pimp is, so why is it ok to use that word and not some other ones that represent awful things?

When you have a moment, educate me.

I'm not really sure. I know I use "pimp" less these days than I used to, and far less as coextensive with "awesome", because it has uncomfortable context for me, who only picked the usage up from popular culture. But I'll trawl around and see what people with something to say on the issue have said...after sleep and research. :p

When "It's Hard to be a Pimp" won an Oscar (wasn't it an Oscar?), my jaw fell down and couldn't get up. That's an early strong contender for most loathsome song title of the century.

Because the form of the poll was single descriptive adjectives, not gerunds. :p There will certainly be some "motherfuckin SWEET ASS'" thrown in on this end, but everyone has their own set of modifiers.

karnythia was telling me that the fact that I call the putative smartphone the Fancy Phone sums up her entire argument over at that post. IDGI, dude. Fancy is an awesome word for spanking-new tech...especially when you're going from POS candybar that doesn't even work on most of I-40 to the Nexus.
