The State Constitution did its job: it protected a group of people from a law that was designed specifically to effect them. So, the State Supreme Court also did its job, but pointing out a law that went against the constitution. It's going to take an amendment to make gay marriage illegal, and an amendment will take at least 3-4 years.
One path that lawmakers could take is an amendment that makes gay marriage illegal in Iowa. I still think that this kind of amendment leaves too many loopholes. But, 11 other states have done it. I also think that there isn't enough support to push an amendment through.
If people want to blame someone, blame the legislature for pushing the issue. By making a gay marriage ban law, instead of policy, they made legal gay marriage possible.
