I've fallen back into the Dresden Files fandom and can't get up.
It's an old fandom for me - I only read the first...what, five books? There are 17 now. To be fair, when I read the first five, there were at least twice that already out. Usually I'll get the random urge to read a fic or two, and then forget the fandom exists for years at a time,

The answer is kind of complicated. First: I read the first five books, many years ago, so everything I know is hazy from time.
The books are in first person, which is a dealbreaker for a lot of people. There's also some ignorant "I'm chivalrous, not sexist!" themes, which Harry DOES grow out of, but it takes a while. YMMV in regard to that - most people acknowledge it and move on, but some people said they couldn't even finish the first book.
There's also some stuff in later books you'll probably want a heads up on, but I'll save it since IDK if you'll even get there.
ANYWAY. The plot of the books are fun. Butcher (the author) has done a ton of interesting world building, and I like the rules of magic. Harry's sarcastic and a little shit, but he does his best to protect innocents. I think the first few books are along the lines of, "Harry is trying to solve this case involving the supernatural, and runs into complications along the way!" but ( ... )
