~*~

Kame has never been one for love. Frankly, he thinks, he just doesn’t care. He tells himself that the day he falls into a romantic relationship, will be the day Koki removes all his tattoos and shaves his head to seek refuge in Mount Fuji as a monk. And although Koki’s head has been shaved, he still has that tattoo stuck on his ass (of which Kame had the unfortunate opportunity of seeing during one drunken night), so therefore Kame remains single.

It’s not that he is determined on not ever falling in love. He doesn’t want to trouble himself, go out of his way to find that special soul mate, if they exist anyway. He is twenty four and usually men his age would be going over the list of people in their lives with a fine-toothed comb, hoping that one of them will stay with the other for the rest of their lives. Till death do them part and whatnot.

But that’s just way too troublesome.

Kame needs to concentrate on other things in his life, like his career. Okay, so maybe plucking out baby teeth, filling up cavities and giving people the same dental advice repeatedly isn’t a very glamourous job. But besides the pay, it’s the only thing Kame can do ever since he got his degree, or wants to do. Maybe Kame can do something else with his life, but that takes more effort.

And it’s just way too troublesome.

Kame’s an easily satisfied person. He lives his life by the day, and if he could, by the hour. There’s less to worry about that way. But if things ever get out of hand, then he’ll have little to no way of controlling it. He doesn’t expect things to get out of hand though, problems only occur to those who ask for too much.

So when things do get out of hand, he was lost, having no clue as to what he should do when the beautiful man came into his private office. He had that hair you would see in a commercial, all brown and long and luscious, falling onto his broad shoulders. Must be nice to run your fingers throu-

Kame stopped that train of thought, a little bit surprised at how it even appeared in his mind.

The man had those plump pink lips in a forced tight-lipped smile as if trying to hide something in there.

Horrible teeth, Kame thought, no one can be that perfect.

Kame greeted him, a small polite smile playing on his lips. And when the guy opens his mouth to reply, Kame realizes that maybe he can be that perfect. There didn’t seem to be anything wrong with the guy’s teeth, it was white, shiny even. All of them lined up perfectly, with not a single tooth out of order, on those pink healthy gums.

Kame must have been staring for quite a while as the guy had to clear his throat quite a few times to get Kame to snap out of it.

“Ah- eh… Let’s get you examined, shall we?” Kame gestured towards his dentist chair, blushing slightly at the fact that he just got caught staring. Wait, no, Kame shook his head lightly. Kame doesn’t blush.

A quick five minutes passed and Kame was done. There was really nothing much to fix or clean other than that little amount of bacteria accumulated over a day.

“Uhm well,” Kame stopped to read the name off the booklet his assistant had slipped into the office, “Akanishi, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with you.”

“Yeah, I know that. Going to the dentist is just a monthly, bimonthly, thing for me, like you know, health check-ups and stuff?” Akanishi spoke in a nonchalant drawl that dragged the last syllable for at least a second longer. “And since the one I used to go to left town or died or something like that, I need a new one… so here I am!”

Akanishi’s gave him a huge grin, blinding him with those perfect set of teeth.

“So I’ll be seeing you every month?”

“Yeah, of course.”

Kame was close to asking if he had a strange kink for dentist equipment but decided against that since they barely knew each other and asking a weird off-the-wall question about sex-related preferences would probably jeopardize any future relationships with Akanishi. Not that he actually wanted one.

It just never hurts to be friendly, right?

~*~

The next time Akanishi came, he had forced Kame to call him Jin instead, saying that if they were going to see each other often, it’d be nice to call him by his given name. Kame didn’t think that seeing each other for a check-up that lasted, at most, ten minutes every month was “often”, but he thought Aka- Jin was cute with his big puppy eyes practically begging him, so he complied.

There weren’t really many opportunities to actually converse with Jin, as for most of the time he was there, Kame had one of those fancy tools shoved into Jin’s mouth. However Kame grew to love the comforting silence that happened every time Jin came and he found himself liking calling Jin by his given name on the rare occasions of which they managed to talk a little.

~*~

Kame liked beautiful things, especially when he didn’t have to work so hard for it. And he had to admit, Jin was beautiful, and a joy to observe from up close. Kame enjoyed watching Jin, he secretly admits. He found himself staring into Jin’s eyes one too many times, stupidly thinking Jin wouldn’t notice when obviously, Jin did.

~*~

On Jin’s fifth visit, he brought along a tiny glass jar filled with cute little heart-shaped candies. Kame raised his perfectly-shaped eyebrows questioningly, thinking something must have gone wrong in Jin’s pretty little head to be bringing candies to the dentist, of all people.

“It’s Valentine’s day, Kame, so stop staring at me weirdly,” Jin said on his own, sensing Kame’s confusion.

“No, Valentine’s was yesterday, Jin. It’s fifteen February today, so yes, I can continue staring at you weirdly,” Kame retorted, a playful tone creeping into his voice.

“Just pretend it’s the fourteenth and eat your damned candy, Kamenashi,” he huffed and sat on the dentist chair, pouting slightly.

Kame stood there for a moment, frowning, wondering what had driven Jin to give him candy on Valentine’s. Did that mean Jin was trying to say he likes Kame? Or was Jin just being nice?

Kame was so deep in thought that it took a while for him to realize that Jin had left his chair and was now standing directly in front of him.

“Oi,” Jin’s voice so close to Kame startled him out of his thoughts. A small blush crept into his cheeks as he found Jin near him.

“You think too much,” was all Kame heard before a pair of soft lips landed on his gently. Kame’s eyes widened in shock, his mind going into overdrive as he didn’t know how to respond. Should he kiss him back? Push him away?

But when Jin’s tongue poked in between his lips, asking for permission, Kame decided to throw caution to the wind, not caring anymore as he buried his hands into Jin’s soft brown hair he had fantasized so much about, and responded to the kiss happily.

Kame realized, as Jin was nibbling on his jawline, that this wasn’t as troublesome as he thought it was.
