It's important to have friends that you love, even if romantic love does not find you. I expect it has a better chance, though, if you do have good friendships. Good friends that you love tend to persuade you of the parts of yourself that are lovable, and it all slowly works toward a better place. Plus, the process itself is worth it.
I can relate to so much of this. I'm not a military kid, but I moved around a lot and went to six different schools by the time I was 14. I learned to make surface-relationships very quickly, because those were easy to make and also easy to lose. Anything deeper terrified me.
