I just reread the HP books, and I was seriously in awe of Hermione, particularly in Book 5. She was completely essential to the trio! You're so right they wouldn't have lasted one book without her, and I liked that Ron said they wouldn't last without her when Harry wanted to chivalrously go without her in the seventh movie, because it was soooo true, sorry boys.
But she knows that intelligence isn't the most important thing in life.
Yeah, the really cool thing about Hermione is that she is sooo smart but also really intuitive and has such a strong moral compass (IMO her moral courage is why she was sorted into Gryffindor over Ravenclaw) and her swotty, braniac stuff is just one aspect of her personality and characterization.
Book 5 and Book 7 are my favorite Hermione books because I feel like she really comes into her own and her journey is so integral to what happens in those books.
