Can someone teach me how to write a first person short story without it coming out as too contrived? I can't do it under 2000 words, unless it's light and that's not what I'm supposed to be doing asdjfl; I mean, it actually comes out okay but I keep thinking "...who the hell thinks like that, I don't, this person is an alien" and then it doesn't ( Read more... )

i am kind of useless

Well, that's why I don't like writing in first person narrative. I don't really think there is a right or wrong in writing first person narrative, it's just the personality of the person so you shouldn't be worried about writing a sensible, logical perspective because...most people are not XD

Daww what happened to your notebook?!

I've only written first person once before, and it turned out pretty well - the problem is every time I try again, it feels exactly like the first one. I feel like I'm leaving out too many things, or focusing too much on something because my current character's something of a moron. Maybe I'm just underestimating the reader.

I, um, dropped it. The HDD is fine and all, but the screen isn't working anymore... 8D;

I wish I could help, but I hate writing in first person. :\ I think one of the most difficult parts is making the narrator's voice convincing, not forced or stiff. Is this for a creative writing class or something of the sort? What are you writing about?

Your notebook DD: I remember being laptop-less for a month and having to constantly use the computer clusters. It was annoying, but I think I probably got more work done during that month lol. Are you getting it fixed or are you going to buy a new one?

I find scratches on myself all the time that I don't remember getting. Maybe we both lead double lives that we're not aware of a la Dr. Jekyll. 8D;;;;

Ugh, so do I. I keep pulling out things I think need to be said and generally ignoring my character's opinions when they're inconvenient.
