I woke at three thirty in the morning to the sound of something crashing down from my ceiling. I was confused for a moment, but soon figured out that the lanterns hung above my television finally stopped resisting gravity and found their way to the carpeting. if i were going to learn chinese, which one should i learn?
i think some friends from powell's and i are going to meet at dot's in a few days (the 27th or 28th?). you should meet us there, instead of sitting at another booth, like last time. :)

To be honest, Mandarin is more useful than Cantonese, even though I do love Cantonese.

this is a very powerful entry. with me, i always get through the rough spots in my life and immediately i'm able to turn around and say, "wow, wasn't that a glorious, poetic period of lowness?" but of course, when you're inside it, it doesn't seem so great. the fact that you can see what you imagine to be the end of a personal era approaching, that's pretty intense.

and i really thought the paragraph about your room's disarray was a masterpiece.

Thanks, Jack. I really appreciate your words.

I don't really know how else to describe how I feel except to engage in some sort of stream of consciousness writing, maybe because there's so much in general and so many different and conflicting emotions.

I feel different, but I'm worried that it won't last and I'll just slide back into whatever's easy.
