Heh. Last time I was in the UK, I saw Tim Tams in a Tescos in Dover. Dunno whether they made it any further ooop North though, nor whether they're still available.
As for Violet Crumble, tis nowt but a poor man's Crunchie.
One of my brother's trips back to the UK involved him eating enormous quantities of malt loaf, it was about the only thing he missed about the mother country back then.
Tis the food of the gods when lightly toasted and covered with lashings of lightly melting butter. Mmmmm, haven't had my breakfast yet and am feeling v hungry all of a sudden. I wonder why? ;-)
I remember "smuggling" malf loaf along with baked beans, Irn Bru, houmous, coleslaw, cheddar cheese and decent tea bags into Sardinia. It does seem a trifle odd bringing English foodstuffs into Italy, but...
Sort of, but not. It's similar to very, very heavy bread, has a chewy texture and is a bit sticky. It also has raisins in it. You eat it sliced with butter on top.
Try it! Trust me, Australia is now a MUCH better place for having Malt Loaf. :-D
