I can...kind of if I squint and look sideways see your mother's point about the deductible, but the flaw in her argument is YOU ARE NOT WHOLE. You have lost valuable items, and you're just supposed to...what? eat the loss? That's beyond ridiculous.

As for stepdad, I lack words. I can't imagine this is a healthy environment for you *frets*

That's basically her reasoning, yes. But considering that about half of my furniture was thrown out when they moved me, including some pieces I did NOT want thrown out but was told "too bad, it's gone," I'm starting to think that seeing my stuff parceled out doesn't bother them any.

I'll talk to my mom about it more tomorrow.

I'd check an see about the facility's security if they got anything-even if you didn't have insurance on your stuff through them, sometimes they can be held liable to negligence in proper security even if you signed a contract about them not being responsible. Regardless they have a minimum they have to uphold if I remember correctly from our unit place. Someone had to do a claim against the storage facility as that camera had been broken and her unit was ransacked.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with the situation you're in though, I'd have probably lost it by now with the step dad being a grade A jerk. ~hugs~
