Do I have to write up an AU background for my character? Can't I just bring them over from canon?
Yeah...nah. The point of the game is that it is an Alternate Universe. If you want to drag a character somewhere crazy as their canon selves, there are plenty of excellent multifandom role plays that cater to that. Check out roleplaysecrets or app_this_plz if you're stuck ( Read more... )

What are your thoughts on pulling a character from pre-canon? The character I have on reserve's entire canon history depends on the existence of a canonmate who I'm not sure we'll ever get, so I wanted to play him from before the two of them got involved.

I'll leave it to your discretion. If you do it that way and then later want to retcon a bit of backstory between them both, we can definitely look into that. I am doing my best to get you a Miria, too ♥

So I can just make a history up then? I've got some fairly well-developed headcanon since I already have him at another game. The Miria there is irreplaceable but wants to play Sara Crewe here instead, so I'm just gonna roll without one because he's definitely playable without her.

what if the character i want to play is like an irl person, but at the same time, also a character in a book? would that be allowed, or no? o__o;;

What do you mean, exactly?

well -- the character i want to play is john keats, who is an english romantic poet and at the same time, a character in tim powers' book the stress of her regard. the character history in the book is pretty much faithful as to who keats is as a poet and all, just with the addition of fantastical elements and stuff. would that be allowed or am i still not making any sense sob?

Short answer: Yes, go ahead.

Long answer of whiny modly technicalities: We are trying to put a powercap on this game to save confusion and godmoding and all that fun stuff, so if you could work it along the lines of the character having weird habits and lots of creepy rumours surrounding them about it, that'd be awesome. Vampires (and things like banshees and werewolves too, I suppose) do work into the existing 'magic' restrictions we've put in place, but at the same time it's not really fair to allow one set of characters to be all crazy superpowered when everyone else has to work around it. Does this even make any sense at all? BASICALLY I suppose what we're trying to say is that all the bloodsucking and whatnot is legit, but if possible we'd like to see any 'super' strength and things like that be a result of building on years of extended longevity from a curse relating to vampirism or something, rather than just 'HAHA WE SUK BLUD AND CAN NOW BLOW STUFF UP WITH OUR MINDS LOLOL' or whatever.

Again, does this even make any sense ( ... )

OH MAN SUDDENLY FLASHBACKS TO A RANDOM COMIC I READ A WHILE BACK:

There's a couple of characters who use biofeedback or something along that line who use it to supercharge themselves. At one point they're having an Epic Showdown and it's super gory BUT MY POINT IS they rip limbs off each other and. Eat them. To replenish their strength and get even more superubersaiyan or whatever. Creepy but apparently very effective...what if the vampirism deal was something like that?

This is the second-least-professional mod comment ever so you get my personal journal, ahem.

Hello, guys~

Small question: How do you feel about silent protagonists? Are we allowed to app them? :v (ie. the main character of Pokemon games)

Silent as in mute? If that's what you want to do, go right ahead! So long as their history and everything is believable and workable, we have no issue with it. Just keep in mind the setting and consequent difficulties a silent character would likely face in trying to communicate; also remember that this game is prose-focused, although really that in and of itself should make no difference.

Oh, don't worry, they can talk! It's just that they never talk at all throughout the games. They only respond to "yes" or "no" questions - that kind of dialogue. But I'm using game/official hints to determine their personality and such. And all right, I have my question answered regardless. Thank you very much for your time!

Ah, okay. Yeah, in those cases we'll treat them more as fandom-based OCs.

Aahh, sorry if this was mentioned elsewhere, I must have skipped it ;gldsg /stupid

For the sample, are we allowed to re-use a previous sample we've written/used for another RP, or does it have to be a fresh one?

We would prefer a fresh sample, but if you have one already written for this particular incarnation of your character that you feel is suitable, then you may submit that.
