i'm really enjoying having my own tiny business. i made a new pendant today, just gotta set the stones still (but i'll do that tomorrow at work, hehe). i also made a custom ring for someone, a really simple band ring with words stamped in it, not exciting but it only took maybe an hour to make and half that was it just sitting in my insanely slow ( Read more... )

if you're looking for a crock pot, I think we have one at work that no one knows is there and you could buy on the ubercheap.

i actually have a mini crock pot that would be perfect, but the problem is that it doesn't have a lid and really i'd need a locking lid anyway, which i've never seen any crock pot to have. since my "studio" is also the "cat room" i don't like the idea of storing chemicals in spillable containers in here. but thanks for the offer :) i think i'm just gonnaa have to suck it up until we move and i can put my bench in an area off-limits to the kids.

It's so exciting that you're able to start making your art the way that you want to and that you have a medium to start selling it already! The coolest part is that because I know talented you are, I really think you will hit a point where you can completely support yourself by your own craft in a short amount of time.

i dunno if i'll ever be able to completely support myself with it... and honestly i'm not sure i want to... merely because i know how retail works, and, as a general rule there are just looong stretches of time when sales are really low across the board (ie, summer). so, while i might rake it in during christmas time, i'd probably have relatively few sales during the summer, and i don't want that kind of pressure. i think i'd rather have at least a part-time day job that i know will reliably pay my rent, and do this on the side to supplement. unless i become -wildly- successful. but we'll see :)

I agree you need a lid. My own studio is a no-cat-zone, but I don't think any cast could effectively knock over my pickle pot- it's one of the regular-sized oval crocks, and very stable.

i'm more concerned with one of my cats knocking the lid off and then playing in the pickle, or worse, drinking it. unfortunately i just don't have the space at the moment to allow for a cat-free studio space :( i lock all my chemicals away and keep my tank locked up as well where they can't get it, so every day i have to lug that tank out and set it back up and then drag it back away... sigh. i'm really looking forward to moving into a bigger house.
