people living in seattle - any thoughts on shane co, the jewelry store? their stuff looks boring but they seem decent to work for? no commissions at least... i'm scouring the interwebs for job opportunities so that i don't have to sell meth when i move there. le sigh.

they have stores here too. I hear the commercials all the time, and they sound pretty decent, and not annoying if that helps.

If you're going to work for someone, you want commission. I assure you.

no, no i don't. it's not worth it. all commission does is make the employees compete with each other (and usually your base pay is lower) and make them pushier to the customers. i don't like to push people into buying something they really can't afford just so i can take home an extra $2. sure you can get lucky sometimes and make a nice bonus but i'm not a good salesperson because of the above. i also like to tell people the truth - that platinum scratches easily and costs way more to fix, and that diamonds aren't worth the money, and that the $10,000 are often ugly unless you're boring, rich, old and like that sort of thing. and i'd rather be friends with my co-workers, who i'd have to spend 40 hours a week with, than competitors.

i don't mind incentives (which are entirely different), but, i'd rather not do commission if i can avoid it.

this is a great example of personality types with different agendas. :)

bryce is a natural salesman and should never work anywhere that doesn't offer commission, because he'll always be better than the flat-rate that he makes and he thrives on the challenge of making the sale... which doesn't exist in the hourly world. jessica is not anything like a salesman and should never work anywhere that pays commission because she will rapidly *hate* everyone she works with and come to view them as monstrous hucksters.

hee! what a crazy life.

yup, pretty much :)

honestly i don't really want to work in a jewelry store, or any other retail environment. i'm being realistic though and mainly focusing on them because my college degree is virtually meaningless, but i stand a somewhat higher chance at getting a jewelry-related job simply because i know so much about it.

i don't suppose you need a personal assistant, mr jason sir, do you? -flutters eyelashes-

Oy chica, when are you moving? And meth is last season, now it's all about insider trading...
