There was a splash of rain last night! Maybe in an hour or so I will go for a brief bicycle ride to enjoy the fresh, sparkling sunshine. But not right now. Right now there is bacon, pancakes, and coffee that require my attention. I did a splendid job on these buckwheats. The addition of just a tiny bit more baking powder than is absolutely necessary really brings out their flavor and creates such an airy texture.
Terrific week! Very strong. I did everything I was suppose to do. Elena and I clocked in two miles running and an additional mile walking on Tuesday. I managed to get my parents to ride one day each this week. Thursday was the best day! Eight hours at the cafe, an hour in the computer lab to finish up the assignment due on Friday so I could fly off to see Peter Pan. Ok. I didn't go running Friday morning before class, but that's optional. I did spend three hours in the lab after class to finish the fiddly project due next week. I stopped at Fresh and Easy to take advantage of the sale rack and was rewarded with my diligence with portabello burgers, strawberries, California roll, and four lovely New York steaks.
And I'm very pleased I didn't go to Night Dive last night. It's a fun event. The live bands and art against the backdrop of the Aquarium is pretty cool. But the more I thought about it, the more I realized there was absolutely no reason for me to be there. I truly did not need any more outings this week, and I have a feeling this weekend might present a few opportunities. I didn't have time to promote Dive this week and get out my crowbar to get people there. I do understand, Friday is not the best day to try and get anywhere by L.A. freeway, and after a long work week maybe going to an aquarium isn't your first choice even if they are serving booze. Without promoting it, and without using it as a great opportunity to hang out with friends, and considering the even has been extremely well attended, I felt no obligation to go. I spent the evening listening Django Reinhard and re-reading a tacky fantasy novel.
I wish I was going hiking today. There is a docent-lead hike up in Malibu Creek State Park today at 10am. Heck, after a bit of rain just heading up to Griffith Park would be peachy. I really can't take the time this weekend. Around here, October/November are two of the best months to be out and about. Maybe if I get in a good solid block of time over There today, next weekend I can go someplace with trees and quiet. I need to catch up from the previous two weekends of social fun. I'll try to go bicycling late this afternoon.
And that reminds me I need to order new tires for Mirth. Which means I need to go out to the shed and check to see what tires I have. If I'm out in the shed I might as well put away the fan, and some of the other stuff, and since it is sunny I suppose I could load up some of the stuff for the goodwill. If I am going through the stuff that goes, I could select a couple items to try out on ebay. Why I need a pleasant morning of pancakes and coffee: so I can start rummaging around at the job I'm not so great at. I would rather be hiking.
