Now that the word is out you should all know about the closure of The Intrepid Fox. It has been on the cards for quite a while that the pub may be up for a change but I don't think we knew how much of a change or how soon it was going to be. Personally I'm absolutely gutted that not only this can happen to what I consider the best fucking pub in ( Read more... )

Fuck, if both the Fox and the Astoria go, that's the last of my teenage Soho haunts wiped out.

Ain't gonna let that happen without a fight!

As has been said, there's really no point hassling the previous owners about it, because they won't give a shit.

Best bet is to get in touch with the mayor's office, cos Ken does tend to get behind causes like this one (he did when the Ballroom was threatened), and it wouldn't do any harm to bug English Heritage, maybe see if there's an MP or two who can get on board, hassle the music magazines, and there's probably a few associations devoted to keeping pubs open if you look for them.

I'm off to write a nice letter to Ken... :)

Did Ken get behind the Ballroom when it was threatened? As I understood it, he was all for it (as TfL wanted to redevelop Camden station, and wanted to turn the block into offices to pay for it) and the planning authorities told TfL where to get off.....

Thanks for posting this. It's too often you take institutions like this for granted until they're threatened.
Do you mind if I link this to my journal?

Here's to hoping for the best.

I wonder how we can get the information about the buildings' history- to use the listing approach..
I've heard they're going to turn it into FLATS! FLATS for crying out loud! I think fighting this will involve using an unusual angle, because if it's sold and planning has started taking place I doubt the new owners are going to change their minds without some kind of legal assualt...
This sucks.

You gonna be at Seamus's today? We miss you :)
