Thanks, and welcome to LJ!

Just checking -- do you reconstitute the TVP before making the dish? And can you recommend anywhere locally to get the ingredients?

Actually, I was just assuming that it was TVP. It is whatever the veggie ground is that they sell at Sobey's.

Only the galangal and the sticky rice powder need to come from a specialty store. I use a little place just south of Victoria on Weber. It is 2 or 3 units down (south) from Pepi's Pizza, still on Weber. I hear there are a few other good stores, but I've always gotten good service from these guys, so I keep going back. The people who run it are Lao, but the store feels like it was imported directly from Thailand (the cultures are very similar- Thais sometimes think of Lao as a slightly separated province occupied by their country cousins, rather than as a truly distinct country/culture).

TVP usually refers to a dried product. At Sobey's, it would probably be Yves veggie ground round. Thanks for the extra info :-)

Welcome to LJ!

I was planning to ask corbet to try and wrangle this out of you!

It was lovely meeting you - I'd like to add you if it's ok. For reference sake, I was the voiceless girl :-)
