Rattman's favourite test subject anonymous June 13 2011, 15:48:42 UTC
Doug Rattman always tries to stay blank and professional around his test subjects, which is relatively easy when its a bunch of hoboes. But then his eye gets caught by a tall, blue-eyed British man, who is seemingly convinced that completing the testing will get him a) a green card and b) to be a NASCAR driver. He tries to resist Wheatley's charms, but eventually he cracks - it's not exactly ethical, but hey, this is Aperture. But then after a while his new friend goes missing, and in trying to find out what's happened to him, he learns things that his mind isn't strong enough to handle.

tl;dr: Rattman/Wheatley slash.

Bonus points if Rattman finally breaks while performing some sort of medical exam/screening on test subject!Wheatley.

For a moment, Doug was gripped by a a hot, stifling emotion that felt almost like anger. He wished it didn't feel so inevitable, he wished his body didn't react the way it did when he saw Wheatley or smelled Wheatley or thought about Wheatley... He wished he could affect the same carefree demeanor as this idiot in front of him, who didn't worry about the future, who when he felt horny simply whipped it out and offered it up, without fear of the consequences...

That's why he's a test subject and you're a PhD."Get over there by the wall," he barked, and then followed him, pressing into him, burying his fingers in the hair at the nape of Wheatley's neck so that he could pull him down and kiss him. Wheatley was enthusiastic and a little rough, their teeth clashing together as they both fumbled to open Doug's lab coat and undo his belt ( ... )

Aperture Science took their socio-legal responsibilities very seriously.

You could tell, just by looking at the test subject application form. It was one of the first questions. "Are you a) wanted for any outstanding offences under state or federal law; b) an illegal immigrant; c) currently absent without leave from any form of military service?" Of course, the applicants always answered "no", and Aperture couldn't possibly be held responsible for checking into the backgrounds of every single test subject on their books at any one time. Especially not with the high turnover that was an inevitable side effect of the extremely stringent testing process.

But this morning, for the first time ever in Doug's experience, one of them had answered "yes".

His job was to go through the form with the applicants and assess their psychological state, determine whether they were able to handle the requirements of testing, and...

...it was a joke, a travesty, he deserved to go to Scientist Hell for all the damaged, vulnerable people whose ( ... )

Wheatley was assigned to a dorm and a test cohort, and Doug tried to put him out of his mind, but when his shifts in the observation suite coincided with Wheatley being tested he would find his eyes being drawn more and more to the British man. He tried to rationalise it - he was bound to be more striking than the average test subject, due to his height, his blue eyes, the way his jumpsuit clung to his form ( ... )

Doug hated the atmosphere around the staff dorms sometimes. It was as if people had never heard of Zimbardo. The tape of Wheatley fighting had caused quite a stir; and there was a lot of talk of him as a contender for the Hobo Cup ( ... )

My GOD you're brilliant.

I have always - and you know I won't change my ideas or anything to suit this, but I have always clung to the idea of Wheatley as an innocent, but I adore this thing where he's got this ruddy untapped violent bit to him that's just not conscious. It's positively brilliant - to suggest the dichotomy between his helpfulness and then his evil in the GlaDOS body and then his sheer contrite nature when he's free of it.

The days to follow were a blur of sex and too little sleep, and trying to look bored when he was in the observation booth with the others. Doug watched Wheatley blunder and scrape his way through the test chambers below with his heart alternately in his mouth and his pants. Wheatley had a bit of a swagger about him, which Doug knew he put on whenever he was feeling unhappy about his inability to solve puzzles; and sometimes he would stop, face the one-way mirror and use his vest to mop the sweat from his face. Doug knew that that was for his benefit.

Imagine if those tannoys stopped broadcasting Cave Johnson speeches all day and started broadcasting all your thoughts instead.Wheatley was an interesting combination. Demanding, greedy for pleasure, he would beg to come like a child with its favourite toy held just out of reach. But he was also delightfully submissive, and the sight of the taller man on his knees in front of him was the most exciting thing Doug had ever seen. And oh, that sweet and dirty voice, constantly talking, ( ... )

He awoke the next morning with a start, the big idiot beside him grinning happily.

"Morning Doug."

He leapt up, frantically scrambling into his clothes, pulling his shoes on, trying to flatten his hair in the mirror.

It's in the mirror. That would be the perfect place to put a camera. Everyone always looks at themselves in the mirror, but actually, they're looking at you the whole time.Wheatley watched him indulgently, his lazy smile and the way the blankets were just grazing his hips making everything ten times more difficult and fumbly ( ... )

Even though I'm usually leery of shipping characters that (seemingly) have little connection to one another in canon

this was perfection.
