Wheatley sighed, scanning the empty store for any signs of life. Of course there wouldn’t be, it was seven in the bloody morning on a Tuesday. Nobody comes into Best Buy on a Tuesday, nobody! He furrowed his brow and pushed his glasses up the bridge of his nose. He was starting to wonder where Rick had gotten off to. Rick was an unusual sort of person, always blathering about adventure and being such a manly man. Frankly, Wheatley was sick of him, and was happy for the silent respite ( ... )

“Hey squirt,” Rick called over to Wheatley.

“I’m taller than you, mate,” he grumbled.

“Eh? What did you say?”

“Nothing. What do you want?”

“Just wanted to tell you that I’m taking the rest of the day off. I’ve got a date with a hot babe, and man, I am going to wreck her. Thanks for coverin’ for me, pal.” And with that, Rick was already out the door.

Wheatley frowned. He may have been used to Rick, but the guy was still a jerk. Wait, what did he mean by wreck her? Was he going to beat some poor girl up?

“What a knobhead.” He jumped off the counter and sighed. “Guess I’ll go play Rockband…. againAfter hours of playing for about the hundredth time, Wheatley threw down the guitar and headed into the back room to grab his stuff and get out of there. He peeled off his uniform and changed into a blue dress shirt with a white vest, regular grey jeans, and black Chuck Taylor shoes, stuffing his uniform in his messenger bag. He combed his blond hair with his fingers, staring at the odd human face in the mirror. Some weird hair was growing ( ... )

When he got to the apartment, he parked the tiny machine in the alley, taking off the helmet and placing it on the handlebars. Happily he ran up the steps, simply thinking of the perfect getaway for the two. He knocked on the door, but no response. He shrugged. She was probably painting. This is absolutely adorable. Oblivious!Wheatley is the best Wheatley.

After dinner, Chell went up to her bed to relax. Wheatley snuck over to the staircase and watched as she pulled out a few dumbbells. She always felt the need to be fit, as if she felt she were to test again at some point during her life. Normally he would have fallen asleep by now, but his feelings had been too riled up for that. He instead now watched her work out, noticing sweat starting to drip down her body. Seems fitting that Best Buy, like cockroaches and Styrofoam garbage, will outlast humans in the apocalypse. I'll be back here tomorrow!
