I just really, really, really want to see a retelling of Beauty and the Beast with Chell as Beauty and Wheatley as the Beast. Let your imagination run wild, fellow anons. Anything goes!

Oh god you don't know how giddy it made me to read that you will be updating this! Beauty and the Beast is one of my all-time fave stories and retellings are the best! I'm really excited to see the beast aspect you came up with (leaving that out really bugs me, too; i cannot even begin to describe how much the movie version of Beastly pissed me off in that regard).
Wheatley is perfect, managing to be both sinister and silly. Chell is plucky and snarky and great. And I loveloveLOVE Cave as her dad. Very intrigued by the mysterious "thing" that Wheatley wants to work on; lol there are sooo many directions that one can go in. All in all, love this and very excited for an update! <3

YAY! I'm glad that you're enjoying it! I love the retellings too. I've practically worn out the library's section on fairy tales, especially the 'Beauty and the Beast' ones. I love the idea of putting it in modern times, especially because it could work better than in the older eras that it is usually situated in (Even Disney had a hard time reworking the story.). Glad you find the characters convincing, too! I thought that I would have a hard time with them, but I guess everyone's pleased so far. Hopefully I can continue with that.

I’m not lost.
Chell took another left down a hallway that looked familiar. She had been wandering for the past twenty minutes and was starting to get worried.
Not worried, she thought. Just annoyed.Annoyed was the right term. It was beginning to feel as if this place was designed to make people go insane. All the corridors looked the same, for starters, and walking down them was starting to make her feel like a lab rat. That, and she was pretty sure that she was beginning to hear footsteps

“Friendly fellow,” Chell remarked, throwing baking soda on the pot that was giving off smoke.
“Yeah, nice guy. A bit excitable.” Wheatley replied. “Want breakfast?”
“…naaah. I was just going to grab some coffee.”
Just coffee? he thought. Won't she starve? She rubbed a wet sponge on the be-egg-ed wall. “Hey, do you remember the room that you put me in last night? Well, it went through some…changes, so to say. Just wondering…was that you

I am SO SORRY that this was late! As you may have learned, Word shut down on me and deleted the story when I had it about halfway done. But don’t worry, I learned my lesson from this little fiasco-ALWAYS SAVE. This turned out to be a lot longer than I planned, but that’s okay.
The shortening in the biscuits is a reference from a Southern Living Magazine incident. Try typing in ‘southern living icebox biscuits’ into the search engine, and you’ll see why Chell was a bit surprised.
I may not be online Friday, so there will be an update early this week. (I'm working on the next chapter as I write.) Glad to see that the story got so much love! Once again, sorry about the late update, stay safe, and peace!

Thank you! I'm glad you like my characterization. I figured that if I just thought of the best reaction to a situation, then thought of the worst reaction to the same situation (short of setting it on fire), then I could be able to write him right. If I said any more, it would spoil the rest of the fic. :) But then again, this is based off 'Beauty and the Beast', so will it really be spoiled?

Beauty and the Beast 3//? “This way,” he called out to her.
“Sorry!” Chell ran to catch up to him. Wheatley had said that he had wanted to work on the area surrounding the Central Core Room and a bit of the Central Core Room itself.
“I have no idea on how we’re going to do this”, she said. “How many areas do you want set up?”
He looked up in thought at the moment. “Let’s do all of them,” he said. “Just to be safe.”
Chell gaped. ALL of it?! The place is HUGE! She stopped walking and slowly looked around at the spiky structures sticking out of the barrel shape. How are we going to get all of it? Does he really think we have all that time? Well, maybe someone like him has all the time in the world. I need to get out of here.
She stopped to look out at the situation. I wonder how Dad’s doing. I really hope he isn’t feeling too rotten, or at least hasn’t blown himself up yet. She smiled. Knowing him, he’s probably already set something on fire. Maybe he’s waiting outside right now with an army grade tank and a small army. She

She wandered the halls, looking for him. This…is bad. The last time I had gotten lost, I had Rick. She looked at the desolate and decrepit hallway. But I’m pretty sure no one’s coming my way for a while.
After a few minutes of wandering, she came across what looked like little offices. They had two chairs and two computers, and usually had a window that was overlooking some arcane physical fitness course. How is someone supposed to complete this?, she wondered, looking at a giant pit between two platforms. Maybe the answer’s on the desk…
She riffled through a few papers. Nothing.
She checked the other desk. There were a few bell curve graphs and some diagrams on some sort of machine that looked like a woman hanging from the ceiling. Her dad, and by proxy, she herself had a background working with robots, so the pictures intrigued her. In the corner, someone had scribbled a username and password.
Huh. This might be useful, she thought, and stuffed the paper in her pants pocket. Okay, back to work. She started down the hall again

“Third…layer…in…”
Chell added the area they were in to the piece of paper she had found earlier. It was a bit derelict, but it was huge. “It’s where we keep most of our information.” Wheatley explained. “It may look empty, but believe me, it’s something special. It holds everything, from the lab temperatures to information on every robot in the laboratory.”
“What information?” Chell asked.
“It’s mostly experiment results, like target practice and how well the robots work in different environments and such. We also try some other things here-I’ll have to show you the rocket turret sometime.”
She seems happy with it, Wheatley thought. It was almost kind of…cute, the way she was meandering across the room, drawing out the little details. It had been a while since I found someone interested in stuff like this. To be honest, it’s been a while since I’ve seen anyone other than the Three, he thought.
Chell wandered around the room, drawing out the important details. Curved ceiling…adjustable panels, that’ll work nicely…What’s a ‘

“So that’s the first part. We’ll go over the other parts later, but I wanted to secure the control room first.”
They were both seated at a kitchen table, eating dinner(well, she was eating. Wheatley said he wasn’t hungry).
“I understand,” she said. “Well, I liked the mazelike style. That tends to frighten people.”
“Really? What about it?” he asked.
Chell doodled on her notepad as she spoke. “It makes them feel claustrophobic. Like they’re being forced to run tests or something.” As she spoke, a man in a pink bowtie, an organized looking outfit and pinned back hair walked in and grabbed a book off the table. He looked at Chell uninterestedly, then flipped to a page and started reading. Wheatley blinked. “Huh,” he said, engrossed.
“And the fact that this is part laboratory makes it easier to set up. We can do something like a mad scientist’s layer.” Chell looked up at him. “You wouldn’t happen to have anything like dead animals in jars or something like that?”
Wheatley smiled. “No, no, none at all.” A few… he thought, recalling a

On top of Chell’s bed was a suitcase and a lumpy looking pillow. She sighed. I missed Dad. She sat on the bed and began digging through the suitcase. I wanted to tell him I’m alright. She stopped for a minute. Once I get out of here, I’ll tell him. Clothes are in here…, she thought, digging frantically through the suitcase. But what about…? She stuck her hand in the pillowcase, hoping for the best.
“Oh thank GOD,” she sighed, squeezing the pillow to her chest. Well, at least I have that, she thought. But I can’t believe I missed him. And I didn’t really see anything that would help me in my escape. She wrinkled her nose and let out a raspberry. I don’t really feel that anything’s improved-
Something moved underneath her bed.
Chell slowly picked up her pillow and lifted her legs off the floor and onto the bed. Whatever it was started an odd chant that she couldn’t make through the bedclothes. She remembered that Wheatley said they tested robots here. If it’s some sort of creepy spy camera robot, I swear… She lifted the bedskirt

“Why is it called ‘Aperture’?” Chell asked, brushing a cobweb aside. She was following Wheatley down a long corridor.
“Well, uhm…” He stopped to push a piece of metal aside. “You know how ideas go through holes?”
“Holes?”
“Yeah, holes. Like…like neurons. Ideas go through holes in the neurons . And we’re always open to ideas here…so that’s why it’s called ‘Aperture’!”
“Huh.” That sounded…arbitrary, she thought ( ... )
