Anybody else see the protest downtown outside the Scientology office. It was weird that many of the protesters covered their faces. Many of them wore the mask from 'V is for Vendetta' others used handkerchiefs. They told me they covered themselves because they were afraid of repercussion from the Scientology people. Do you think Scientologists ( Read more... )

"Think" has nothing to do with it. They're known for doing so.

Reason why the protesters are masked

There is a policy that Scientology has called "Fair Game" The following is the policy

"ENEMY - SP Order. Fair game. May be deprived of property or injured by any means by any Scientologist without any discipline of the Scientologist. May be tricked, sued or lied to or destroyed." (yes, this is real)

They claim that the policy was cancelled but it really wasn't, the treatment of critics/sps remains but the act of openly declaring them "Fair Game" was stopped

This is the continuation of action of F.G

"The practice of declaring people FAIR GAME will cease. FAIR GAME may not appear on any Ethics Order. It causes bad public relations. This P/L does not cancel any policy on the treatment or handling of an SP."

Scientology hires private investigators to harass critics, they try to get them fired, etc.

In 1978 they tried to frame a critic named Paulette Cooper with a bomb threat. Scientology called this "Operation Freakout"

Yep, the masks are worn for a definite reason.

when it comes to personal beliefs, I really don't care what people believe, but there are some things *I* believe. You can't BUY spiritual enlightenment. And a "church" should not try to silence dissent outside it's ranks and least of all WITHIN it's ranks. Scientology is guilty of all three of those offences. The evidence and burden of proof are astoundingly overwhelming. While I agree that Scientology is an inherently corrupt organization that probably could quite readily be convicted of any number of crimes, it could be argued that many other religions/churches have been guilty of the same crimes in not just historical times but modern ones as well ( ... )

It's not an either-or situation, and by dividing the argument in half like that, you are in fact proving exactly why down this road lies danger.

I'd like answers to my two questions, which nobody who I've met who participates in Anonymous' protests have answered. They are, in total:

1. What it is it you are trying to accomplish?

2. Based on the assumption that you are attempting to accomplish the elimination of the Church of Scientology, how do you hope to accomplish this without impacting other minority religions?
