Things said to me tonight

"Well, you can be the friend who shows people the bad side of things in life. Sometimes we need to see that things can be bad, evil, and disappointing."

*blink*
I suppose it's good that I have a function, but I thought I'd been more upbeat of late.

Ya' never struck me as the dark and brooding type... sure, we've all got that part of us, but it never seemed to be dominant.

But hey, being the dark one in a group of friends is a lot better than being the idiot... or worse, the whore. :P (Cuz you know every group of friends always has those two.)

Having held positions as the dark one and the whore yeah, Dark one is signifcantly better. Hey, i'd rather be the dark one that people realize they need than the one they keep around to feel good about themselves, or the one all the boys like around becuase she's pretty to look at, or the ones that dont have any significant identity at all within the group.

It's a bit more upbeat to hear that you're at least realistic about life and aren't promising good fortune to all, completely ignorant to the darkness that thrives all around us.

And furthermore, you know deep down that people need you, that somehow in the scheme of things you're valuable to them beyond the superficial level.

And at least you're not the whore

Yeah, but he's already staked out that position, so I had to choose another.

For me, you seem to offer an alternative perspective. Not usually negative, as that can often be my original position. Maybe the person making the comment usually is optomistic and you show them an alternative that just happens to be darker. It may have more to do with them than you. *shrugs*

You have been letting the darker parts of your personality out since last year's decision. I'm not sure how "disappointing" got in there, though.
