From the subject, one would assume that this is an angst-filled post about troubles in my life.

Nope -- it's about yoga.

Every yoga teacher I've ever had has (at one time or another) told the class "Smile!" while we were stretching right to the limit of what we could do. I think that I always assumed they were just being sadistic, or perhaps naturally chipper. No, smiling helps. For the last couple of weeks, my breath has been steadier during my practice, and the whole practice has flowed more smoothly.

Now, I just need to get over the feeling of annoyance that I didn't realize the advice was serious. I mean, "smile!" is the kind of thing which meddlesome people chirp at us all the time. What if it's not just in yoga? What if they're right too?

I'm not quite sure what I (as a definite curmudgeon) should do if that's the case. While I figure it out, though...
