Crazy weekend. Long story, sort of, but class starts in 10 minutes. It all started when I got acquainted with my new
computer. My dad got me a foot-long for my birthday. :) Now I can play in musicology, which is where I am now.
I named it Ivan, after the couch surfer that I hosted this weekend. That's another
story. Since Miami is obviously one of the huge attractions for kids who can afford a week's vacation for spring break, housing prices in hotels, hostels, motels, etc. increase drastically for the month of march. In the website couchsurfing.com, you can look at profiles around the world, and basically the purpose of the website is to achieve free housing wherever you travel by other people hosting for you. This croatian guy, Ivan, emailed me telling me that he was going to be in miami for a week and if my "couch" was available, I said why not. I'm always up for new things. It's risky, of course, but he seemed really nice.
He came by tri-rail and metro rail on friday night after landing in fort lauderdale airport after flying from laguardia, after a 5 hour bus ride from Ithaca College. Crazy, but he did finally land 5 minutes away from my dorm. He hung out with my friends friday and saturday night, we went to the beach on saturday, ate at a "spring break" venue on south beach and had a very expensive lunch, spent more time in the sun, clubbing, et cetera et cetera et cetera. I love when tourists come, it gives you an excuse to do touristy things. I even went in the ocean water, some freezing 75 degrees cold in earlly march.
He stayed in my dorm for the weekend, and three of his friends from ithaca came to miami. I couldn't find any housing for them, and they hadn't made plans to stay anywhere else, oops. They all slept on the floor of my room on sunday night. It was a sight, I wish I had taken a picture. But that was the last night 4 extra people would sleep in my room, hah. We found housing for 2 kids, and the other 2 will be staying in my room until thursday. Which is fine, even better since they're pretty hot. And my roommate is fine with that too, which was important. I probably won't host another kid again until I have my own housing though..
An hour into musicology by now, listening to an opera by Verdi. Who knew that Verdi was an acronym, for Victor Emanuele Re D'Italia (King of Italy)? Weird.
Je dois manger lá.
