“So what’s wrong with this woman anyway?” Detective Kwon flipped through Pan Min’s file. “She’s your adopted daughter…but I thought you said you only ever had a son?”
“Yeah, and he was my only child, we adopted her because my wife couldn’t have kids,” Detective Lee replied, speeding down the road. A couple other vehicles followed them with other policemen inside. “Ever since she was a girl she was strange, always talking to herself or would stare at us with a cold expression on her face. Of course we thought it was all due to the change, the fact that she was a child, and she came from a mother who did drugs and drunk like a crazy woman. That’s how she killed herself, you know. When my wife adopted her she thought that she could help the girl by showing her how to be a normal kid. And then my wife got pregnant and we weren’t getting anywhere with Pan Min, so we did push her away. Our son was perfect and our son, not someone else’s. I just never thought she’d go so far as to kill him that’s all…and now this. Who would have thought the way she had been raised could have created this.”
“Well, you know what they say. A child’s upbringing is the most important thing to their learning and well-being. You were wrong in what you did even though you had your own child at last.” Detective Kwon sighed and stared out the passenger window. It was dark, the sun fully set and resting for the night. The full moon was low in the sky.
“You’re a good partner, even if you rationalize every little thing,” her partner smirked, “alright, so we have another hour to go and we’ll be at the summer house.” She could only nod and gripped her pants tightly in her hands.

Yunho pulled the car over to the side of the road and turned it off so no one would bother them. He looked at the other three and licked his lips. Jaejoong looked scared but did his best to keep himself composed; Taecyeon looked determined and almost eager to go. Jaebeom, too, looked scared but there was a stubborn look in his eyes that told Yunho he would do anything to get his maknae back.
“Alright, so this is where the woman said she found Taemin, and he came out from there by that tree,” Yunho said, pointing to a gnarled tree. “Which means the house is in that direction somewhere.”
They had decided it was best to go by foot because they didn’t want the sound of the car to alert Pan Min. There was no telling how far they had to go but they didn’t care. They put on their gloves, hats and coats and stepped out into the suddenly snowy night. Their breath billowed out like smoke sending warm clouds into the air. Stuffing their hands deep into their pockets and hunching their shoulders against the cold, they started off into the trees and they found that the woods weren’t as thick as they had thought.
They had walked for what seemed like an eternity, the thought that they could be lost constantly nudging them. As they trekked along, however, Yunho had found several spots that had been marked or broken by something that wasn’t an animal. A skid mark down a slope, a twig broken with some blood on it. He wasn’t an expert tracker, but he was pretty sure the animals around there were careful about how they walked or ran. It was a hopeful site, one that also came with fear as a partner. They were drawing closer to their maknaes but what would they find? Or would they really find anything?
Suddenly they stumbled into a clearing. The clearing had been manmade and there was a van parked outside of a rundown, neglected house. It resembled Pan Min’s house in some ways, only this one had many more years of abandonment on its side. The porch was curved inwards and rotting, the roof caving under the constant weather. It even looked as though it was going to collapse any moment, and the only thing holding it up were the pillars running along the porch. However, there was a light on through the dirty windows. Jaejoong slid closer to Yunho, shaking so hard he could hardly stand still. Taecyeon and Jaebeom held hands tightly, using each other as support and comfort. They knew what they were supposed to do, but how suddenly it seemed impossible. True they were four strong, young men with strong, well built muscles, but did it really compare to a psychotic woman with two bodyguards behind her? She managed to get Changmin and Chansung in a weak position, would it be the same for them?
Slowly Yunho glanced around, looking for the place where Taemin escaped from. There was no way he would have just walked out the front door just like that, so there had to be something….
“There,” he whispered, jerking his thumb towards the side of the house. Near the ground was a vent, but it was so small that only someone with a really small body could fit. That wasn’t any of the young men standing in the clearing, and for a moment they felt at a loss. But then something happened, and it gave the boys an opportunity.
“Will you shut up and just go,” a woman snapped, “like I said they’re almost dead anyway they can’t do anything to me I need some food. Besides you’re both giving me a headache and I need time to think by myself! Get out!” And she shoved the big men out the door, slamming it firmly behind them.
Hurriedly the four boys ducked behind some trees and pressed against them, hearing the men mutter and complain about Pan Min and her bitchy attitude. Car doors were slammed and the vehicle revved to life, speeding out of the clearing so fast that seconds later it was silent. The four idols stood with their eyes wide and suddenly they felt confident. One crazy woman was enough for them to take on after all! They would have to surprise her, of course, they couldn’t afford to give her the chance to think and act. Quickly they revised their plans a little bit and then sprang into action. They were so close to Chansung and Changmin and yet they couldn’t be any further. The only thing standing in their way now was Pan Min.

Changmin rolled his head over to face Chansung, who had fallen silent suddenly. Not even his laboured breathing could be heard, and fear rolled through Changmin like nausea.
“Chan…sung,” he croaked, “wake up Chansung.” His eyes were dry and sore, his body too dehydrated to shed any more tears. “Chansung don’t you die on me yet. Our hyungs are coming for us, I know they are.”
Something stirred inside him, something like hope. He didn’t know where it came from but he just suddenly really believed what he was saying. Their hyungs were coming for them, they would be saved.
Suddenly there was a scuffled above them but Changmin’s energy had been completely spent. Slowly he closed his eyes, refusing to be defeated so easily.
