I did grow up in a stable, kind home, and *none* of those things you list made me afraid. Not saying I don't have issues, but a lot of mine come from going to public school in the Bronx, but not my mother. (most of my childhood was as an only child of a single mother)

You're not whiney. And as you've seen from reading other blogs - you're not alone in the having a horrible childhood/family life. It's sad that it is too common. :(
