//For some reason (delusional, star-crossed love) I didn't immediately recognize Pike's reassignment to the Enterprise for the death knell it was//
*hums*
//God I just can't get over Kirk being the grown-up in the Kirk-Spock-Uhura mess. And then lapsing in the elevator. And the shuttle. They're all so charming.//
Yes. Just yes. It was all good fun and a breathless blur of action and explosions and really all I remember clearly are the moments when people got to be human people (admittedly at breakneck speed) in between.
YOU EVEN WARNED ME. And I remembered. But only once Kirk made his deduction about how the attack on the archive had ALL BEEN LEADING UP TO THIS EMERGENCY CONFERENCE. :((((
And yeah, really delightful flashes of unstilted personhood wedged in around the lensflare--things which stand out all the more now that, ten hours later, my scant understanding of the plot has drained to a torpedo-y residue. Why did Khan put them in the torpedoes again? Plot. Yes.
God I just can't get over Kirk being the grown-up in the Kirk-Spock-Uhura mess. And then lapsing in the elevator. And the shuttle. They're all so charming.
Yes, I loved this one too :)
I did think the faintly incestuous Starfleet system, and its parallels with Khan's icy murderclan, were pretty nicely done; I liked how Admiral Marcus' assertion that he groomed and doomed Pike makes him a sort of grandfather to Kirk, and how Kirk and Carol Marcus get to watch him die as fucked-up heirs to his power and legacy.
Interesting point about Kirk being Marcus' "grandchild" in a way! There's a lot of favoritism going on IMVHO - I'm saying this despite loving Pike so much, but some of his decisions regarding Kirk are a tiny bit insane IMO ;)
The movie leaves so many beautiful fanfic hooks IMO, I hope the fandom will deliver...
Haha, thank you! It's good to feel the pull of this fandom again. But yeah, Pike is not the world's most objective employer--"let's dump the guy who actually made the honest report on some creakier ship and pick the wild card and egotist for first officer," yes, Pike, that is definitely a nepotism-free system you are operating.
I'm looking forward to seeing the fic rush. I'm surprised I haven't seen a more solid kinkmeme resurgence, actually, though maybe I'm just not checking the right comms. Still. My faith is abiding.
We just got back from seeing the movie, and I loved it. The emotional porn of Kirk's death scene was worth the price of admission. I'd have paid to watch a two hour loop of those few minutes. LOL
Speaking of DS9, did you catch the reference to Section 31 with Admiral Marcus beginning that underground operation? *loves*
Yessss, I was very appreciative. Though anything that makes me daydream about a sleek reboot-style update of DS9 is a double-edged sword, man. ONE DAY. One day someone will pick it up, and………... probably make it super grimdark.
there was a pandering quality to the scene with them bickering in the shuttle, but it was also adorable, and it worked in a weird way to highlight Kirk's growth as well.
Yes, this is the best phrasing ever!
I want to see Jim and Carol drinking and reminiscing, yes. Maybe while Bones sleeps th sleep of the well-fucked between them.

There are currently three possible kinkmemes, and I'm not sure which one will win:
http://st-aos-kink.livejournal.com/ - brand new, rather empty
http://trekkink.livejournal.com/896.html - all Trek and RPF- active
http://strek-id-kink.livejournal.com/1695.html - for the new movie, active
