As you can probably imagine, I was very excited to learn about my acceptance into the Social Studies Education major at UGA.  I went to work and bought my copy of "Freakonomics" and checked out "The Undercover Economist."  I spent a morning daydreaming of teaching my students about awesome topics like scarcity, supply and demand, and price ( Read more... )

I'm really sorry. But there is light at the end of the tunnel. In Georgia, you are certified to teach all the subjects included in social studies. And if you choose to specialize in political science, it includes quite a bit of economics.

That's what I was wondering...if you were certified to teach all of social studies or only your area of specialization. If I'm going be certified in all of it, it doesn't make any sense to me to have me specialize at all. Why not have me take something from every section? I would put up with a few history classes to take the few economics classes I am able to. [sigh]

Talk with the advisor about all the options before you get too depressed. It may be better than you think. I looked at the subject assessment tests for certification for the Praxis in Georgia. Social studies was the most difficult because you had to be proficient in all the areas.

Sounds like the UGA I oh-so-fondly remember. They do love to screw you over with prerequisites. Something similar happened with me as well.

I am adding you to my friends list on the advice of keatsheart.

I'll add you to my friends list as well. I'm Mike. Nice to meet you.

Prerequisites are not my friend.

Sorry we did not make it in to see you in Athens last week. We were bopping around the stores in downtown and lost track of time. We had to leave a little early to go and see Brokeback Mountain at a theatre in downtown Atlanta. We just barely made it.

I was wondering if you came and I missed you. But it's all good; I was in the back for a good part of the day working on clearance stuff anyway. BTW, where does your brother live? I have only seen the pictures of him you posted on LJ, but I saw a guy at work yesterday [New Year's] that looked JUST like his pictures.

He lives in Adairsville, north of Cartersville. He has been to Athens a few times though, so it's not out of the realm of possibility. I have no idea where he was yesterday. He and Jim were both off. I'll check in with him tomorrow and let you know.
