So, we went to the track today.

In Indianapolis, that means only one place: The Indianapolis Motor Speedway. I'm amazed at what can be written off as a "corporate vehicle" time and time again. I'm going to go ahead and cut here, since this will be image-heavy.

So, yeah. Huge. I guess after you've had enough vodka, it's difficult to find your penis unless you park it outside.

Family heritage at the Speedway is part of why we're here today. My great-grandfather won the opening event in 1909, which was a two-lap, five mile race. He designed the engine of the winning car for the first 500 mile race in 1911.

Here we have Maddie, Macy, and Nathan all posing with the actual pace car for this year's race. It's a nice looking piece of hardware, if I do say so myself.

There are a lot of changes to the racecars this year, including chassis and drive train. Since I haven't been much keeping up with racing over the last decade or so, I can't begin to explain much myself.

We did happen to be in the garage area when this just-crashed car was brought back.

Two shots of this car, showing the wrap-around airflow stuff that's new to me.

Don't know how well you can see it, but they're listing awards already given this may, including the Louis Schwitzer Award.

My mom brought us to the award dinner this evening. Quite unexpectedly, Maddie and Macy, as great-great-granddaughters, were invited to help present the award! I was so proud!

Maddie, Macy, and Nathan all posing with the Vice-President of GM Motorsports. He was a wonderful speaker and I was very impressed how he made sure to thank all those around him. I thought it showed some real leadership skills, and was a genuinely good guy into the deal.

We all got our pictures with the award winners, who are standing in the middle behind my mom. They are from Chevrolet and Ilmore, and cooperated to design the new engine for this year. Nine of the top 10 qualified cars for the starting lineup are using this engine. They've apparently won four pole positions and four races already this season.

So, that was the essence of the day.
