BioLite Campstove arrived: the photo essay

I first heard about the BioLite Campstove from my usual gang of idiots on a forum I frequent. My wife affectionately refers to the people there as "Lou's Internet Boyfriends." So you said it doesn't give much of a charge, though? I thought it was supposed to be able to do that. Is it possible you just didn't charge it long enough? I was interested in this stove (but didn't have the money to buy it so I suppose the point is rather moot) but I would have wanted to use it to run my laptop. It doesn't sound like it'd be powerful enough for that, eh?

It does what it's supposed to. It isn't a big enough generator to make enough power for a laptop. There's just enough to trickle-charge a small device, like a phone or LED lights or an MP3 player.

Awww. :-/ I was hoping for more "going camping and don't have to worry about plugging in my laptop" sort of functionality. It's still really cool, though, and would certainly be useful for emergencies and disaster preparedness.

Yeah, that'd be cool, to be able to run the laptop from something like this. I think it would have to generate a lot of heat in order to create the amount of electricity you're talking about. I admit that I haven't done all the research, yet, and that there are a lot of things about this that I don't understand.
