It was lonely in the room, and sometimes cold, and quite isolated. There was too little color, and the view out the window was of twisted branches; it made Cho a bit sick to think of cutting the bark away and hitting green. A lot of things made her sick lately, so much so that sleep was necessary as never before.

But --

No, not today.

She had no desire to see much of anyone. Percy was one thing, but her pride would not allow the other parts of her life to bleed into the hospital room. She had never liked the idea of her image being compromised, and though she was sure people had plenty of ideas now when it came to her physical wellbeing, there was nothing that made her concern illegal. In fact -- in fact, a nurse had said it was quite normal for some women. (The inflection of the first syllable did not imply anything but a particular nature.)

Regardless, she would have plenty of time to catch up with others when she did not look and feel like a piece of shed skin. That being said, the people who meant most knew this; Cho had always been the sort of person to do what was necessary for herself, mostly because it meant the comfort of all. She wasn't very good conversation at the moment anyway -- there was a lot to sort out, and the sooner the better. Her primary concern was to leave the hospital as quickly as possible. When her life began again and it was all put together, hopefully most/all of this would be forgotten.

The fact that this wasn't true occurred to Cho, of course, but there was no choice apart from casting it pleasantly aside. The space such thoughts would have occupied was reserved for imagining what she would do when home, a logical sequence for sorting her mind's eye, and whether or not Katie was all right. At heart she had no doubts -- though she'd tried to be strong, Katie really had been. What they had gone through was personal in a way she couldn't explain; it was for this reason she hadn't asked anyone for news. She'd have to go see for herself the aftermath of Katie's experience, because that was how the trauma had been in the first place -- the two of them, alone.

But... Not alone. Not anymore. The room was sterile, but there were flowers now: from the symphony, from friends. From strangers. The positivity made things easier, and she could feel herself gaining something not unlike strength. There were pieces that hurt still, now and always, but.... Pain would always exist as long as she was human. The concepts were transitive, inseparable. And it was like anything else -- important pieces of her life always came in pairs. In simpler times Cho was very social, but to those she loved most she was an individual: herself and another. Two.

A couple.

Oh, Percy.
