Two posts in a day? I must be bored

So I went to Bible study today at Central. I enjoyed the intellectual conversation and all, but I just felt really awkward being there. Almost as if I'm still not sure about the whole religion thing. I really don't want to get into TOO much detail about it because I don't feel like starting any debate or hatred toward me, but it was different.

What ( Read more... )

I go to church every week, and although I don't usually say so, it's mostly by choice. I go to a lot of the youth stuff at my church. Every time, I find myself--just like you--in the minority in many discussions, such as drinking and sex. Don't think that you're alone in thinking that some of the things they say are a bit conservative.

My point is that you should not feel as though you must agree exactly with whatever a religion says, nor should you feel bad in any measure for not agreeing. Most of these youth groups are attended by the more conservative of kids, so bear that in mind.

I've stopped downloading music. About time, I guess. Maybe single song every now and then, but so far I haven't even done that.

Need to start buying.

The best and worst things about religion is the church.

Pro's: The church is probably the only way any of us would know ANYTHING about God, Jesus, and the Bible. And if hypethetically you aren't going to use the bible for anything else, it is a good piece of writing. I'm not going to make up statistics or anything, but most Americans who have God in their lives and regularly attend church tend to have better morals than those who don't. Which makes sense, considering this country was born based on religion. People have a need for some kind of higher power, even if it isn't Christianity.

Which brings us to con's:

People also have a need for attention(Excuse my generalizations). <-- Meaning half the people who do regularly attend church aren't going for the right reasons. I can see why those people who hate underage drinking would confuse you. But a sin is a sin is a sin is a sin. Underage drinking, fantasizing, adultry, cursing at God, killing someone... They are all sins. If we all believed that God had a "point system ( ... )

First of all, awesome title.
Second, I love the fact that your reply is larger than my actual post.
Third, though I am trying to cut down on my religious bashing, I loved this:
"If we all believed that God had a "point system", and certain sins are more forgivable than others, we would all be Mormons."

Priceless.
