As this has been the subject of much pasty + lager debate on Saturday evening, what is everyone's take on kisses (xxx) in text messages? Do people pay attention to it? The general consensus was that us, as men, read far too much into them, and that it just typifies our desperation to find any sign whatsoever that a girl likes us

I put one, two or three kisses at the end of texts to my close friends friends and to others I think are generally worthy of the attention. This could be for a variety of reasons, not necessarily fancying.

I wouldn't say I use them as standard, and it varies with how I'm feeling and if can be bothered. I use a xXx combination for the people I like best, but that takes maximum effort fiddling with millions of buttons. Also, it depends on the amount of space I have left. Kisses will always be cut out if I can think of soemthing better to say with those 3 characters!

For me,

xx = standard, to be used for all friends, family and boyfriends/girlfriends.

x = what you put with a newish friend/friendly colleague, when you want to not be really formal but also don't want them to get the wrong idea;

xxx = when someone deserves an extra display of affection.

was this conversation the reason why i've recently been downgraded to two? or did you previously think that we were on the verge of going out and now were just friends/maybe fancy! ha ha
