how do i keep converting myself to new pairings

So. Because I'm me, I've kinda converted myself to Loki/Thor (despite never watching any film in the MCU and having no intention to...well, unless I decide to write a fic myself...) and, um, yeah, recs? I'd love slow burn & long fics, and please no AUs in which they are not raised as brothers, because obviously that's where all the tension for the ( Read more... )

Yeah, I always appreciate some difference in sex scenes. I remember reading a quote from Stephen Fry, I think, to the effect that a lot more straight men seem obsessed with anal sex than gay men, lol. I mean it must be a lot of effort to do it every time, I'm sure a lot of the time they can't be bothered with all the rigmarole XD

Oh my god, yes, I'm just skipping most sex scenes at this point because they all feel like the very same thing over and over again. I think I've read two or three memorabe ones altogether (not counting pwp stuff), one because it contained important things for the overall plot, one because it marked a huge change in the relationship - and one simply because it was really hot. ;P But otherwise? Sorry, boring. I don't get the obsession, either, because honestly, 99% of the time you could insert any other characters instead and nobody would notice, siiigh.

I usually skim sex scenes, just in case there's something important to the plot in them, but it's such a slog, yeah. I wouldn't even mind so much if they were hot, but most aren't...(though I suppose the sameness kind of contributes to that :P).

(though it's hard to believe that a majority aren't virgins, sigh) - This is mostly why I don't write steamy scenes myself (that, and I would have trouble keeping up with what goes where) XD lol sadness

I'm a virgin who's written sex scenes, but I usually get them read over, haha. Though haha, how would you have trouble keeping up with what goes where? :P

I did the same thing. I was, like, 14 when I first started writing them - I knew what went where, but I just didn't know the rhythm of it or how to make the scene flow without having BOOM DA SEXY TIMES ARE HERE come in (ha ha) out of nowhere XD

I usually look for some variety in sex scenes in fic, whereas in most fics, it's the same thing over and over again DX

Sex scenes in fanfic are, I suspect, as or more influenced by what the writer liked in other fanfic as by what the writer likes in real life (not just when the writer is a virgin, although that's part of it, but also when the writer's sex life doesn't include the relevant equipment in some other way - if the demographics we have are even roughly right, it's going to be common to have your RL sex life be a penis or two short of frequent fanfic situations, for example). As a result, sex scenes do tend to be Tab A into Slot B, or blow-1-2-3-fuck, or a small number of other patterns, and I only read them if I'm a) really into the characters in that way, or b) enjoying something else about the fic (e.g. dialogue) which continues through the scene.

Oh, that's a good point. I suppose it didn't occur to me because I can't see how people could like these same old sequences when they've appeared so many times (whereas my personal distaste of oral sex makes me hyperaware of never having read fic in which there are characters who share my aversion).

I'll generally skim sex scenes, at the least, in case something important to the plot happens within them, but it's quite often a chore.
