So the online train ticketing system here does this thing where the great majority of train tickets are reserved for people who are planning to get on at or near the originating station for a train. One can, as long as the paper is coated with oil :) The flimsy paper ones that get used as props and stuff everywhere can't be, though!

I'd imagine you probably need to condition it periodically so the paper doesn't dry out?

You mean the oil on the paper? :P But yes, one should get the umbrella wet at least 3-4 times a year to prevent the oil from evaporating. (Luckily, I live in a place with enough rain that I don't need to do anything more than use it when it's raining outside :))

Your umbrellas are beautiful! Out of curiosity, do oil paper umbrellas ever come with other sorts of images--animals, trees, etc?

Thank you! And yes, one can ask for any sort of image one wants, since the canopies are hand-painted :) I just seem to be unable to like umbrellas with other images! :P

They don't really feel fragile, though :p Although they do require more care than mainstream umbrellas, and I'm always careful about keeping it away from everything so that nothing sharp pokes a hole in the canopy :Z
