It's so strange seeing my Western friends make all these ~multicultural~ dishes at home. idk, I don't know any single (mainland) Chinese person who actually cooks non-Chinese food at home. People will go out to eat food from other countries, but at home, yeahhhhh. Though granted, we do kind of use different cookware...(and ngl, cooking food from ( Read more... )

We have the normal dishes, I guess--Chap soy, mixed greens stuff. But I'm not sure how traditional my mom cooks. She never had a grand childhood filled with good food (she ate more plain rice/sweet potatoes than anything else... so no dishes to add) though so... yeah. If compared to the restaurants dishes, my mom just improvises and cooks whatever we crave or whatever is the easiest/fastest to make.

Hmmm same for me. I used to not like strawberry too, since i got for the plain vanilla more but sometimes I don't mind the strawberry. Or bitter gourd. I detested it a lot, but nowadays I just eat it without complaint.

Also, I found this tumblr today and wondered if you are behind it: http://moonbeam-on-changan.tumblr.com/

:DDD It's a really lovely blog filled with lots of info.

Well...my parents also didn't have a grand childhood filled with good food, but they are both very good cooks! XPPP Where is your mom from?

And I haven't been on tumblr for a long time! Looks nice ,though :)

Didn't like mayo or onions back in my younger days.

Still can't stand mustard, though.

I make food from other countries at home depending on my mood and what I want to cook.

I used to dislike most seafood but my best friends are Chinese and when I started eating with them I came to love seafood. The things I still don't like are small prawns and hot dog sausages and although I like coconut I don't like it with rice.

Coconut with rice? How does that work? O: Bits of coconut mixed in, or...? It's such a strange combination to me!

Here's a recipe to the rice. It's not my favourite but it's popular in Caribbean culture. I prefer rice and peas without coconut milk

We're a good counter-point to your cooking, we never cook Chinese food. ;-)

haha, but I presume you cook pasta and other stuff that's not traditionally German? ;p

Probably more than "traditional" German dishes, yes. Though, we have so many people from all over the world here, it's really all mixing up anyway.
