I love it.
Happy raving that might transcend into slight boasting below, so I've cut so you have fair warning.
I get to see so much of the world's coolest and newest science every day, and then I get to put my own spin on it. I've written stories on nanotechnology, hydrogen production, particle accelerators, decision science, and lots of other crazy and wonderful topics. The people I work with are all great (some of the higher-ups are still a little intimidating, but we get along well), and I'm productive. It's a really laid-back place, but it's still challenging.
I'm also learning SO much science. I really only had a handle on biology in college, but now I'm really getting exposure to lots of chemistry and physics. I never really thought I'd be interested in them, but it's feeling more intuitive than I thought it ever would. The interviews are my favorite part of the job.
I'm really excited to start in my real job on September 10, not only because of the pay raise and health insurance, but because I'm going to be so over my head. I mean, I'm sure I'll be able to keep up with the work, but I'm also going to have so much more responsibility. I'm sure I'll feel out of place for a while -- my boss told me today that I'll be required to attend the monthly senior communicators meetings from now on, and I'll probably be the youngest person in the room.
This afternoon I got cc'ed on a superduper nice email from Eleanor, who is one of the PR people, to the rest of the division that said that my work was "compelling" and my enthusiasm as "contagious" and that she felt that the division was "lucky to have me." How much nicer can you get?
