If this is all true, I really hate being right. And I never planted my vegetables, although I've got a pretty decent harvest of plums from the tree in my backyard. I will do better at this.

I haven't heard the full argument in favor of the (there's got to be a better word than "invasion"), but I've got to admit that, based on all the cases presented in there, it certainly doesn't look good, and that my first impression of the situation would be that your concerns about it seem to be justified. :/

I'm skeptical about it being all true - it reads as too much of a liberal "and Amerikkka's government is prejudiced in this way and genocidal in that way and kicks puppies!" article. However, I'm not skeptical about it being partly true. We don't bomb places just 'cause we get warm fuzzies off helping civilians with toxic governments; we have rationales, and those aren't so nice.

This article sure repeats a lot of stuff already popularly reported as "Stuff they don't want you to know." Oh do tell, are the rebels a mob of undisciplined irregulars who get off on looting and other criminal activity too, maybe some people figured that out since the rebellion began as a riot and the news does keep reminding us that no organized opposition was allowed to exist under Gaddafi. This article reads like its in favor of dictators because they make the trains run on time. I think the news media is already well into its cycle of portraying Libiya's revolution as problematic, but this left wing conspiracy theorist angle is pretty stomach turning to me ( ... )

There is a strange illusion of stability and peace under a dictator. The unseating of Saddam Hussein brought forth all the subdued tensions.

And really, it is an illusion. The tensions are still there underneath the surface. People confuse the lack of news to something good. We just didn't hear enough about Lybia for too long.

I pretty much concur with this. Having worked with a large number of people who have suffered abuse, one thing I have learned is that oppression and cruelty tends to be quiet.

I'm not saying these things aren't LIKELY, because the USA is nothing if not self-interested, but I certainly don't think getting rid of Ghadafi is a blow AGAINST African unity and stability. This whole thing reads like typical lame-ass white guilt, trying to make us feel bad for not being a nation of utopian pacifists who subsist entirely on granola and positive thinking. It also VASTLY downplays the accomplishments of the revolutionary forces, which smacks of backhanded Eurocentrism to me.
