How We Spent the Holiday Weekend (July 4th and 6th, 2008)

Here are some pictures relating to our recent activities.

This is one of the floats we saw at Galveston's July 4th parade. We recognized it from Mardi Gras, and the people on it were indeed throwing beads in addition to the expected candy.

Today we were feeling adventurous and decided to try Simp's, a soul food restaurant downtown. Here we are with our loaded plates before digging in. Amy ordered fried chicken, enchiladas, green beans, and black-eyed peas, and Jeff got meatloaf, short ribs, cornbread stuffing (which was unexpectedly spicy), and sweet potatoes (rice with gravy was also included with his for some reason). Despite appearances, the food was very good. We were unable to clean our plates and therefore took home leftovers, and are still so full that we've decided to forgo supper.
